Trader Joe’s Haul Part 4.0!

I’m back at Trader Joe’s on a mission to find healthier options for you! Going to Trader Joe’s is always an adventure and I’m here to break it all down for you. I’ve said this so many times, but it needs to be repeated: reading ingredients is the key to success! Even when something looks benign and safe, take a look at the ingredient list to ensure it is truly healthy.

As with all of my other TJ’s hauls (you can find them here, here, and here), I always avoid products with canola oil and say “no thank you” to anything soy. (You can listen to my podcast episode with Dr. Cate Shanigan, which explains why I avoid canola and other seed oils.) Avoid seed oils and soy products  always proves to be a challenge, however, I am happy to report (and share) some of the good finds from my visit.

Fruits and Vegetables

There are tons of varieties of different fruits and vegetables at Trader Joe’s! I was happy to see both fresh and frozen produce. Some of my favorites were:

  1. Roasted broccoli/cauliflower

  2. Chopped veggie mix

  3. Pomegranate seeds-These take the messy work out of seeding a pomegranate.

  4. Green Goddess salad dressing-This is a great salad dressing and/or marinade.

  5. Spicy Cashew Butter salad dressing-A spicier salad dressing option.

Prepackaged Food

I was pleasantly surprised to find several packaged foods that I feel comfortable sharing with my family. Check out what I got:

  1. Cashew Fiesta Dip-This is a nice alternative to a cheese dip. I personally enjoy it with some hard boiled eggs. It’s really tasty!

  2. Prepackaged cheese, salami, and meats

  3. Chomps beef sticks-I have two teen boys and these snacks are handy to keep in the car or for grab and go snacks.

  4. Tillamook cheddar cheese

  5. Prepackaged guacamole-We always have guac in my house. It’s an easy healthy fat to add into my meals.

Frozen Food

There are tons of frozen veggies and other great options!  This is what I bought during my visit:

  1. Microwavable rice packets-These are a staple in my house.

  2. Roasted red peppers and onions-Takes out the busy work of cleaning and chopping veggies. Just sauté with your favorite protein, add some fresh herbs or spices, and you have an easy meal.

  3. Frozen peas

  4. Multi colored cauliflower-What a fun way to add some color to your meal!

  5. Wild caught shrimp

Fun Stuff

Every time I go to Trader Joe’s I am on a mission to find some fun and unique foods for my family to enjoy.  This visit did not disappoint! Listed below are the goods I brought home:

  1. Risoni-This is a great grain free/legume based rice alternative.

  2. Gluten free crackers made with sunflower seeds, quinoa flour, oat flakes, sesame, onion and garlic

  3. Sunflower butter

  4. Almond butter

  5. Oven Baked Cheese Bites

  6. Grain Free Granola

  7. Chocolate Lava Gnocchi-You read that right, my friends! If you want 1 fun food from TJ’s, this should be it!

  8. Corn, Black Bean, and Pepper Salsa

  9. Organic Sparkling Green Tea-My  son loves this and I feel good knowing that there is no sugar and it’s mixed with only grapefruit juice and mint.
